Overview

The veterinary sector is experiencing a similar trend of consolidation as seen in the human healthcare space. While clinics often retain operational independence, consolidating their systems offers a significant opportunity to reduce operating costs. Standardizing the Patient Information Management Systems (PIMS) becomes a key factor in driving operational efficiencies, allowing for cost savings and consistency in reporting across hundreds of clinics.

Objective

The objective was to develop a standardized PIMS that could be rolled out across hundreds of veterinary clinics. This would provide two key advantages: reducing licensing and technology costs, while ensuring consistent operational processes and reporting across all locations.

Challenges

The solution had to strike a delicate balance between functionality and flexibility. It needed to allow clinics to streamline their operations while remaining adaptable to the specific needs of each clinic. Additionally, the PIMS market is fragmented, with dozens of vendors offering outdated solutions in various stages of cloud and on-premise deployment. Building a fully customized solution from scratch was considered too expensive and time-consuming.

Solution

We tackled these challenges by leveraging an existing PIMS platform, licensing it, and customizing it to meet the client’s needs. This approach provided the client with a cost-effective and timely solution, avoiding the need to build from the ground up. The customization allowed the system to be both functional and adaptable, delivering the consistency the client needed while also accommodating the varying demands of individual clinics.
